Starting The New Year Off On The Right Foot (Or Maybe The Left One!)

Believe me, I know life is not perfect.  We are all susceptible to the days where nothing seems to go as planned.  Nevertheless, we are at the beginning of a new year!  For many, the beginning of the New Year serves as an opportunity for individuals to start on a new, clean slate.  It is the perfect opportunity for us to put the past behind and set new goals for us to achieve in the year ahead or perhaps several years ahead.  Let us put our best foot forward in the next chapter of our lives and makes 2016 the best one yet! 🙂

According to http://www.merriam-webster.com, frustration is defined as “the act of preventing the success of something.”  It can be so easy for us to get frustrated about even the smallest details of our lives.  Whether we are frustrated with ourselves, or frustrated with someone else, it is not doing us any good.  Frustration cannot be easily controlled, but in this upcoming year, it will really benefit you if you try not to sweat the small stuff.  Acceptance is the key to maintaining a peaceful life.  We must learn to accept all that we are dealing with in our lives.  When we do find ourselves facing the inevitable frustration with which we are bound to face, we have to find a way to deal with it a more peaceful manner that won’t put ourselves or anyone else down.  We have so much to be grateful for and we must not let our frustration take away from that.

Is there really anything we shouldn’t be grateful for?  I see even our greatest challenges as a blessing in disguise.  Challenges and changes in our lives help us to learn and to grow stronger as individuals, despite the pain we may first experience when we face them.  I believe everything happens for a reason and we should be grateful for the way things turn out, even if they are not as we originally expect them to be.  Gratitude is a major influence on one’s happiness.  Make it a resolution to wake up every day this year with a grateful heart.  You’ll be surprised to see how far that will take you.  It can be much easier, though, to be grateful when you are around the people that make you happy.

By no means should we make it a habit to avoid others or ignore them in any way.  However, we deserve some say with the people we choose to spend time with.  It would be unfair for us to throw away our hopes and dreams because of someone else’s opinion.  Life is simply too short to surround ourselves with unkind people.  With this New Year ahead, make sure you take the time to spend it with people who lift your spirits and treat you as the amazing person that you are.

A wise person once said, “We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”  We can’t decide how our lives will play out this year or in any of the years to come, but we do have control over our attitude.  Let’s resolve to keep a positive mind in all our daily encounters.  It is in these challenging moments that we prove our utmost strength and reveal who we really are.  I hope that everyone is starting the New Year on the right foot (or possibly the left one!) and that it turns out to be everything you hope for and more.  Most importantly, I hope that you really LIVE this year. The time for a new journey is here, my friends.  Let’s begin.

Namaste.

  1. I am a great believer in choosing your attitude. Life throws all sorts of things at us but we can choose to act graciously and with kindness instead of reacting in frustration. This is what I plan to do every day now. Lovely post!
